In the 70's Phonogram owned licences for many US independent labels and therefore had access to some great soul tracks. This was released on Philips. A number of these were hits in their own right. Don Covay's "It's Better To Have"; Cissy Houston's original of "Midnite Train to Georgia". "Tom the Peeper" was a real dancefloor favourite and "I'll Be Holding On" and "A Mother For My Children" were forerunners of the smoother Philly sound that was developing.
