David Essex - Imperial Wizard (1979)

From The Lost Record Covers Club

This was the follow-up single after Essex's success with the song "Oh What A Circus" from the original Evita! album.  Phonogram spent money on this with the initial release being in blue vinyl with a special label featuring the artwork of said wizard.

As you can see the separations of the artwork (how they used to separate the colours for the four colour printing process before digital) was done incorrectly.  Look at the Wizard's outstretched arm and see how it disappears before his hand is shown holding the staff.  We notified the label when these were noticed in the production stage but the timetable for the release was rolling and the decision was taken to carry on.

An album of the same name was released with identical artwork with the first few thousand copies in blue vinyl also.
